I loved working on this recent commission. I can't show the whole piece but the plate of yummy looking stuff, I can show and what I love to show is the process or stages of its progress getting painted.
| Stage 1: I started with a flat fleshy colour and started to work on the highlights lit from above. I did this by working up layers, getting progressively lighter and greyer. |
| Stage 2: After the light parts were done and some blending had been carried out, I worked on the shadows in grey blues. I did this on the pigs head first to test the colours before rolling it out to the rest of the platter. |
| Stage 3: Happy with the colours, I painted the rest of the fleshy things across the board. |
| Stage 4: Okay, so there are some stages missing between but, what I did was shade the actual platter surface and add shadow below the intestines. I also added an overlay layer with splatters of pink on it to mix up the colours a little to make some of the highlights appear a bit more rotten. Reds were added to show that some blood was still present in the pile of organic matter. |
Tasty stuff right!?
