Daily Doodle 0028 Surreal Living Landscape

Imagine a flat land covered in a fleshy like substance that pillar, totem like creatures grow out off. That is what I tried to play with in this daily doodle. The end result seems very phallic which wasn't intentional but I guess might be a subconscious nod to H R Giger... or something else.

Daily Doodle 0027 Creature Concept A

I draw a lot of creatures and monsters, it's no secret, but I don't _design_ creatures as such. Doing concept work for computer games means you have to design a creature, not just draw one and that entails a different approach. Looking back over my work, I can see that I need to push my design skills a little harder. Today, Creature Concept A, is a design for a design sake and will be the first of many.

When I do more, I will come up with a type of landscape or habitat and think about how a creature would exist and survive there. What would it eat, how would it defend itself, where would it sleep, how would it attract a mate? All questions that help to build a believable creature concept. This questioning is an exercise used by many great concept illustrators in games and films and I know I have a project coming up that will require me to do some concept work, so I better get in the practice!

Daily Doodle 0018 Arch Mage

Doom isn't the only game I've been playing recently. I've also been wasting away my time on a game called Heroes of Might & Magic V, a strange mix of role playing and real time strategy and resource management, all set in an old world style fantasy land. My first all pencil sketch in the Daily Doodle seires, Arch Mage, was created because of that game. I do like fantasy worlds but don't draw enough from such settings, maybe I should do more.

Daily Doodle 0013 Old Banana Head

Continuing my obsession with wrinkles, Old Banana Head is a strange chap. One eyed and a chain cigar smoker, he likes to leave places in a real hurry, often heard saying "I need to split!" Created with marker pens and ink.
